ABOUT AMANDA KAYE

Amanda Kaye_On set1.JPG

Amanda Kaye is a La Biennale di Venezia–supported filmmaker and award-winning writer, director, and producer based in Brisbane, Australia. Her debut feature CUT SICK is currently in development and was selected for the 14th Biennale College Cinema – International Call (2025/26), where she participated in Workshop One as part of the project’s wider creative development.

Amanda’s short-form work has screened at Academy Award, BAFTA, and Canadian Screen Award–qualifying festivals. She began her career as a production manager on documentary features and mini-series before moving into writing and directing narrative work in 2019. Her films often explore psychological unease, taboo female interiority, and darkly comic approaches to social expectations, with a particular focus on identity, intimacy, and the body.

Her short film NORM (2019) won multiple awards and was released as part of Bloody Bites Season 12 in January 2025. GOOD TIMES AND THAT’S OKAY (2022) also won multiple awards and enjoyed a two-year festival run including Santa Monica, St Kilda, Cambridge, and DeadCentre. EVEN IF I WANTED TO (2023) was endorsed by acclaimed academic Orna Donath for its bold depiction of maternal regret.

Her two most recent projects represent a significant step forward in craft and international exposure. APPETITE OF A NOBODY (2025) had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest and continues to screen on the global genre circuit, while MOONCAKE (2025) will have its world premiere at Flickerfest in January 2026.

Amanda has collaborated with leading filmmakers including Tristan Barr, David Gim, Ashley Burgess, Sandra Sciberras, Peter Hegedus, Douglas Watkin, and Jeff W. Tseng, and is a long-time creative partner at Continuance Pictures and filmbarr. She has also served as a judge for the St Kilda Film Festival (2024) and Sparrowland Short Film Festival (2025).

She is currently continuing development on CUT SICK while building a slate of psychologically driven, taboo stories for international audiences.
